Fashion and beauty trends are thrust into our faces no matter where we look. Whether it’s on our social media feeds, in magazines or on billboards, we simply cannot avoid it. Staying on trend is something that we’re all encouraged to do, no matter how badly this might impact our budgets, but this is not the best mindset to follow!
It is possible to look good and stay on trend without causing too much damage to your wallet – here are a few tips.

When you’re looking for something specific to add to your wardrobe, it’s a whole lot easier to avoid impulse buying when you’re shopping online. Avoid Trendy Pieces
This seems to contradict the point of these tips, but it’s important to keep in mind that trends come and go as quickly as the seasons do. If your clothing budget is tight, it’s a better idea to use most of what you can spend on good quality, classic and timeless items.
Good jeans, T-shirts, button-ups, sweatshirts, knits, and shoes that will last the ages are a far better place to invest your money, than trendy tops and skirts that will be outdated by next month. Staple pieces like the ones we mentioned will always be trendy and always be in fashion. Throwing just one or two trendy pieces into the mix will be more than enough to make sure you feel like you’re keeping up with the Kardashians.
Try Second-Hand
Vintage is in – whether you like it or not. Shopping second hand is better for so many reasons: the planet, the industry and its workers, and our wallets. Second-hand clothing stores have become a booming trend on Instagram and it’s becoming easier than ever to get both classic vintage and new trendy pieces at a fraction of retail price.
Invest in Luxury
Spending loads of money on luxury clothing may feel counterintuitive when it comes to saving money on clothing, but certain items will last the ages. And we don’t just mean in terms of trends – but their quality too. Spending big on items you know you’ll want to wear forever (jeans, coats, boots, etc), will probably save your money in the long run.
Buying cheap pieces and fast fashion is tempting – you can get a whole lot of clothing for not a whole lot of money. However, the consequence of this is that you’ll probably be replacing all of those items within a few months because of the low-quality materials. In these cases, spending more money will be better for your bank in the years to come.
