Dana Carvey/I'm gonna have to say, "No"  − 16 October, 1991

It was a mildly cold October day after I graduated High School. My friend Casey Green called me and told me that Dana Carvey was performing at Caeser's Palace in Pocono Mountain. He was a huge SNL fan and wanted to do stand-up comedy himself, and he still does, and I loved Dana Carvey.

It was the day of the show though, so he needed to come pick me up right away. I got ready and hopped in his car and we were on our way. If you ever have known Casey, this is just the way he is. he used to do this sort of thing all the time.

We show up at Caeser's and Casey tells me he doesn't have any tickets. "What?" "Yeah, I figured we could stand in the lobby and listen no problem", he says.

I just started laughing and he was pissed because he couldn't hear Dana. We looked through the cracks of the door and I can remember seeing him pace around the stage. Now, for those too young to really remember Dana in his prime- We all thought at the time about Dana Carvey as you do now of Will Ferrell. That is until he tanked on his own in "Master of Disguise."

Just then, John Warnagaris walked up to us. yes, the same John Warnagaris that was in my story, "First Day of High School."

In a Security Officer voice, he said, "Gentlemen!"

We turned around and he laughed as if to say, "Casey and Brian, freakin houligans."

Then he gave the old, "I'm going to have to ask you guys to leave, you can't be here without a ticket."

Without missing a beat, Casey says, "I'm going to have to say nol"

I laughed and Bill wasn't amused, but I thought it was even funnier that he took himself so seriously. Casey and I did leave after several, "C'Mon Bill, I've always been nice to you" and "Is it illegal to stand in a hotel lobby?" attempts at sympathy. Bill even threatened us with the cops, which wasn't cool. We knew he was just doing his job, but damn, calling the cops for us trespassing because Casey wants to watch his idol?

We ended up leaving out the main door and sneaking around the side stage door and we listened for a while. Some of the act was great, but I'd rather buy the video and watch a comedian then listen to one.

Ever since then, I've never been able to get Bill's face, when Casey politely told him no, out of my mind. I guess you had to be there, but it was funny as hell. We ended up going to a diner and talking til about 2 a.m. instead.
