The Woodshed  − 20 February, 2007

In the space of just a few months (November 2006 to February 2007), I had released four albums on the internet:

  1. evolution on Jamendo;
  2. apocrypha on DMusic (scroll down the page, you'll see it);
  3. handmade on Jamendo; and
  4. the FAWM 2007 album on DMusic.
After years of keeping to myself, I was releasing tunes at a madcap rate. The time came, however, when I realized I needed to slow down and take another "inward turn". It was time to gain some new skills before releasing more material or even recording more tunes.

Jazzers call this "going to the Woodshed." I've posted the full version of the story on my Wordpress blog.

Right now, I am focusing on conga drums and organ. For the organ, I'm sharpening my traditional jazz and bebop skills. In a few weeks, once I've made progress in these areas, I'll go back to learn some more about funk and latin bass. Finally, more toward May, I plan on focusing on guitar skills (whichever I need to complement my new style -- whatever that turns out to be).
