September Chevy - August Cap' Schmoozefest − 8 September, 2006
Honestly, I don't even know the name of the event I was at tonight. It was a gig put on by August Capital in Palo Alto. Mike Jones got put me on the guest list so I could rub elbows with people who might be interested in knowing a thing or two about Dandelife. Some biz dev opportunities, yes. Some VC opportunities, yes. And that's all I'll say about opportunities.
Tonight went fast though, which means it was exciting or entertaining. Both, no doubt. Stewart Butterfield couldn't get enough of the sweets being passed around. Jeff Clavier looked content. Mike got more 3/4 hugs than anyone else in the room. I know because I was counting. Ross Mayfield was Ross Mayfield. Talked a mile a minute. I felt like he tied me to his bumper and gassed it all the way to Reno; good advice is good advice, even at a mile a minute.
Let's see, what else? Rubbed a lot of elbows, but I'm still a fish out of water up here. San Diego has taken the edge off of me. I'm not a hard sales guy, which is good up to a point. Still, though, I looked, listened and learned what to do with my hands when I'm not in the conversation. Make frequent trips to the bar; get lime in your water. The night ended with me getting a demo shot of some very well-known (but not to me) electric car that costs $120,000 and goes 0 to 60 in 3 seconds. I got in my rented Chevy Aveo and drove away. 0-60 in 10 seconds. Yeah!
