The Star Sets2 October, 2005

I call October 2005 "Red October."  It was sort of a sequel to Dark Side Summer; in this month, I went from being a local musician, member of two bands, veteran of more than 20 performances, to being nobody in particular. I had enjoyed making live music.  My time with Rhyth...  read more

Battle of the Bands27 September, 2005

I was a casualty in the Battle of the Bands. Killarney Star played in a locally hosted contest called "Battle of the Bands"; we lost.  It just wasn't happening that night.  The place we played was Common Grounds, one of the best venues in town -- in a new location.  Th...  read more

On this day, Killarney Star played what I will always remember as one of my favorite shows, at a place called A.J.'s in Jacksonville, Florida.  It was a double bill, us and one of my favorite bands, redboy.  We'd played with redboy previously at V-fest and The Social. That night . . ...  read more

One of our few out-of-town shows was at The Social in Orlando, Florida.  That night, we played with two incredible bands -- Mercy and redboy. But man, was it hard.  My wife was still away in Cambodia.  There was no one to share the good times with. Between this show and the n...  read more

Dark Side Summer21 May, 2005
Posted by bmccosar about 1 year ago 315 views
On this date, a period of my life began that I later came to call Dark Side Summer. My wife got a summer internship to Cambodia.  Now, she has always been supportive of my music.  This was the very night she was to be flying out of the U.S., hypothetically gone for three months. ...  read more

Starfish CD release15 April, 2005

Killarney Star released an album on this day, Starfish, with me on bass and my friend Andy Anderson on drums.  Our CD release party was at a club downtown called The Atlantic. Oh, man, is this ever a story. Kaley, a.k.a. Killarney Star, wrote and arranged all the music the band perform...  read more

A year before this day, I played the Market Street Pub with Rhythm Method, as part of V-fest.  Now, here I was, playing the same festival, but with Killarney Star. For the past eight months, we had not only been playing shows, we had been recording an album.  Mixdown was in progress;...  read more

My second show with Killarney Star was a benefit concert for Gainesville's Civic Media Center. We played many more shows around Gainesville between this date and the end of 2004; but in 2005 big things were going to happen. The end would come too, of course, but I don't regret the journey.  read more

For our seventh show, Rhythm Method played Common Grounds again.  Little did we know, but this was the last performance.  There were signs all around, if you knew where to look -- not in the people, who gave their best as always, but in the events: We played with two other grou...  read more

The high point of Rhythm Method's performances had to be the night we played at the Gainesville Friends of Jazz and Blues festival, at the Savannah Grande in downtown Gainesville. A year before, I had attended the very same festival, except I was in the audience. I remember watching the jazz ba...  read more
